Climate Change in the Region
Changes in River Flow, Ice Cover, Flooding, and Rainfall
Changes in Severe Weather Patterns
- Plant and animal species will change and some may become extinct.
- The polar bear has been listed as a threatened species and is becoming monitored
- Due to global warming conditions the grown polar bears have begun to cannibalize the younger cubs.
- The polar bears have an increasingly smaller hunting space and less ice to hunt from because of the thinning of the ice caused by global warming.
- The polar bears use large slabs of ice to move out of the Hudson Bay area to hunt seals but are unable to do this because it isn't cold enough for the ice to thicken.
- It is highly likely that there will be new plant and animals in Churchill, Manitoba because of global warming.
Changes to Local Ecosystems and Species

- Not only in Churchill, but globally the temperatures will rise.
- People who live in Churchill may experience heat stress and more air pollutants.

Changes in the Occurrence of Insect-borne Diseases
- There is a chance of exposure to water-borne diseases and disease - carrying insects.
- Although, there are not human diseases from insects in Churchill, Manitoba they may migrate towards this region due to warmer weathers.
- Due to natural disasters outbreaks of diseases and bacteria would increase especially when water and sanitation services are damaged or destroyed.
